The colour blends deep cobalt with weathered teal and smoky aqua, so instead of a clean bright blue the surface reads rich, earthy and oceanic, like aged, sea-worn water. The weathered teal and smoky notes ground the cobalt and give it a natural, lived-in depth. Across a pool the mix reads deep and organic, the blues shifting against the earthy tones as the light moves. Mosaics usually come face-mounted or mesh-backed on sheets for easier laying, and the individual pieces may be glossy, matte or a mix. A glossy finish lifts the blues, while a matte or mixed finish suits the weathered, aged character particularly well. Grout colour makes a big difference with mosaic, since there is so much of it: an earthy or mid grey-brown grout enhances the weathered look and lets the blues lead, while a white grout brightens the whole sheet.
